Back to all projects     Gery Vargas is a Peruvian-American research-based artist working across time based media, sculpture and installation. Interested in exploring material histories and narratives embedded within the land and architectural vernacular, she seeks to unearth stories often lost through time and displacement, provoking questions of identity and belonging. Her work navigates grief, abjection, territories, and la lengua mestiza as she embraces the contradictions of diasporic self and mysticizes worlds of communication.

Vargas has exhibited in NYC, Lima, Peru, Providence, RI, and Denver, CO, and has attended residencies at Materia Abierta (MX) and After School Club (DE).

Gery Vargas has received her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and B.Arch from Syracuse University.
